Silent Samaritan Fund

Funding

Some of you may be unaware that Samaritan Counseling Center has a Silent Samaritan Fund that subsidizes uninsured and under-insured clients. This fund is made possible through generous donations from local communities and clergy. However Silent Samaritan Fund clients' needs always exceed our available funds. With managed care companies continuing to slash their fees to professionals and the number of reimbursed sessions, donations to the Silent Samaritan Fund are more important than ever.

Please take a moment to make a one-time or ongoing contribution to the Silent Samaritan Fund by mailing it to Samaritan Counseling Center of the Capital Region, 220 North Ballston Avenue, Scotia, New York 12302.

Additionally, you can print a donation coupon or make a donation online via secure email. We're also registered with IGive.com, you can find out more information here.

You can designate your donation toward one of our specialized therapy programs: Project PASS helps adolescents at risk of failing school. Project Recovery supports people with histories of sexual trauma. The Clergy Institute provides services to meet the unique needs of clergy and the clergy family. The Relationship Institute builds healthy families on a foundation of a strong marriage.

Your gift will make a real and lasting difference in our clients' lives. Families and individuals will be enriched because of your kind spirit. Thank you!

The following is a story where generous donations have helped tremendously.

Being protected.
Being safe.
Having someone to turn to.
These are not experiences that Michael* knew well.

Michael is a 14-year-old boy who lives with his aunt and uncle. When he was 8, Michael's mother died suddenly. Michael and his younger sister were bewildered and terribly depressed. Their father, who had used street drugs before his children were born, was so distraught that he turned to drugs again to escape. Within a couple of months, he was completely preoccupied with drugs and had stopped parenting his children.

No one was getting Michael out of bed in the morning, the way his mother had. No one was making him breakfast. No one was reviewing his homework. No one was making sure he was in school.

When Michael was 9, one of his teachers noticed that this usually energetic and happy little boy had over time become sullen, quiet and angry. The teacher knew Michael's mother had died, so she arranged for him to see a school social worker, but she was unaware of his father's drug use. The teacher then saw Michael begin to misbehave and break rules. She saw him hitting other students. And then he became absent more and more. No one could account for Michael's whereabouts.

The teacher called Child Protective Services, and the state decided that Michael and his sister would be better off living with his aunt and uncle. Michael's aunt brought him to Samaritan Counseling Center of the Capital Region, where children, adults and their families can get the help they need when life's problems become overwhelming.

With the help of regular family sessions and play therapy, Michael learned to grieve the loss of his mother and to understand that his father's drug use was not his fault. Today, Michael is still pretty angry at his father, but he has been able to adjust to school, do his homework and even play on the basketball team.

Every day at Samaritan Counseling Center, we help children like Michael. And every day, people like Michael fall through the cracks. Without insurance to pay for his sessions, Michael's aunt was able to receive counseling due to Samaritan's Care Fund, which subsidizes uninsured and under insured-clients.

Your tax deductible investment of just $75 will subsidize one counseling session and make a lasting difference in the lives of children like Michael. Without your generous support of our Care Fund, we would not be able to help the Michaels of the world. Please send your investment today.
