Andrew Chestnut , LMSW, MBA
Andy 's clinical specialties include individuals, couples, and adolescents and their families – with particular attention to the impact of work/life issues on critical relationships. He works from the systems perspective, which begins with the understanding that every system is perfectly designed to deliver the results it is getting now. Therapeutic change involves developing an understanding of how the existing system works - and then helping people get their needs met in ways which feel better and work better for themselves and those who are important to them.
Andy, a Schenectady native, received his B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his MBA from Columbia Business School. He spent many years in corporate life, including fifteen years with General Electric. Initially in finance, his expertise eventually grew to include change management, systems, operations and strategy.
He left the corporate world to return to Schenectady in response to a calling he felt to develop a new career centered on helping people. He received his MSW from UAlbany, after year-long internships at the Capital District Psychiatric Center and Northeast Parent and Child Society’s Schenectady Child Guidance Clinic.
At Samaritan, he is part of the Couples Clinic Team and the Clergy Team. In addition to being licensed by New York State as a Master Social Worker, he is certified as a hypnotherapist by the National Guild of Hypnotists. Andy is a fluent French speaker, a professional musician, and the father of two grown children. He lives with his wife of 28 years in Schenectady.
