photo of Oona EdmandsOona Edmands received her B.A. in Psychology and Dance/Movement Therapy in 1996 from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, and her Master of Social Work degree from the University at Albany in 2006 followed by a two-year post-graduate residency

Oona has been a part of the clinical staff of Samaritan Counseling Center since 2005. She works extensively with individuals, couples and families using Bowenian, structural, and self psychology. Oona has completed training in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), an important new treatment for trauma. She has also worked as a counselor/case manager in an adolescent girls’ shelter and with individuals suffering from chronic mental illness

Oona has practiced and taught mindfulness meditation for 15 years. In collaboration with David Olsen, PhD, she is working on a couples’ survival workbook combining Bowenian couples therapy with mindfulness techniques. A regular contributor to articles for the Samaritan newsletter, Oona is a certified meditation instructor and has a particular interest in integrating spiritual approaches to psychotherapy.

Oona is a member of Samaritan’s Project PASS staff, and practices in several local schools providing family therapy for students in danger of failing school. She practices in Samaritan’s Scotia office and is very happy to be expanding her practice to the Delmar Reformed Church one day per week.
