photo of Sarah WillisSarah received her bachelor’s of science in Psychology from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.  From there she pursued her masters in Social Work from Adelphi University, and shortly thereafter receiving license to practice as a Social Worker in New York State.

At Samaritan Counseling Center, Sarah provides psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families She particularly enjoys working with children, adolescents, and their families when issues arise regarding difficulties in academics, socially, and other emotional/behavioral struggles including but not limited to depression and anxiety.  In 2005 Sarah spent a semester of field work at Bailey Avenue Elementary School facilitating a group for children of separated and divorced parents, teaching social skills classes to grades K-2, and working with families of children who struggle behaviorally while at school to create a more structured environment to enable the child to be successful.

In 2006, Sarah spent time practicing play therapy at the START Children’s Center of Rennselaer County, working to help alleviate trauma to child and adolescent survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse.  In Sarah’s final year of graduate study she landed a spot at Samaritan Counseling Center as a psychotherapy intern.  From the beginning her passion working with people was prominent. Enthusiastic about providing the necessary support for those who may be seeking relief from marital stress, anxiety, depression, life change, and family crisis.  At this time Sarah offers appointment slots in Scotia, N. Greenbush, and as apart of the Project PASS program, Bradt School  and Colombia High School.  In addition to psychotherapy, Sarah is now certified in TAB (tough and breath) therapy technique.
